White Self Rising Cornmeal

$3.99 To $34.99

We've been piling local corn in the same hopper of The Old Mill to grind into cornmeal since 1836. The structure of the mill hasn't changed since the first miller ground, filled, and tied bags of the unbolted cornmeal for mountain settlers. After the corn is ground between the massive stones, the miller sifts it once through a handheld large, fine mesh sieve to pull out any large pieces that escaped the grinding. That's why we call it "unbolted"; you get the yummy bits of the corn kernel in every bag of cornmeal. Ours is coarser than most, with all the flavor of the corn left in. White Self-Rising Cornmeal is a complete mix with leavening and salt already added. For quick and easy cornbread, just add egg, melted shortening, and buttermilk as directed on the 2-lb bag.

Watch our former miller make this old-fashioned Fried Cornbread recipe right outside The Old Mill and General Store. One taste and you'll be making them often to serve with sorghum or syrup, or alongside barbecue and roast meats.

best corn meal i have ever used

my sister brought me back a bag of this cornmeal, as I love my cornbread, and I have to say, it is the best so far...I have gotten cornmeal from many southern states both white or yellow, but this white corn meal has been the best as far as taste and ease of baking....

White Cornmeal is the Southern favorite. Try adding one or more of the following ingredients to the recipe on the package: crumbled bacon, chopped green chilies, sliced green onion, fresh corn kernels, grated cheese
