Plain White Cornmeal

$3.99 To $34.99

Item   OMWCM

We've been piling local corn in the same hopper of The Old Mill to grind into cornmeal since 1836. The structure of the mill hasn't changed since the first miller ground, filled, and tied bags of the unbolted cornmeal for mountain settlers. After the corn is ground between the massive stones, the miller sifts it once through a handheld large, fine mesh sieve to pull out any large pieces that escaped the grinding. That's why it is called "unbolted"; you get the yummy bits of the corn kernel in every bag of cornmeal. Ours is coarser than most, with all the flavor of the corn left in. 2-lb bag

White cornmeal is the South's favorite. It makes delicious cornbread and simple breading for fried fish and okra.

I've never found another corn meal to equal this one. The texture is fantastic. We drive a long way, deal with all the tourist traffic and lack of parking in order to enjoy our cornbread and Hoe Cakes made with this outstanding corn meal. Works wonderfully in Chess Pie too... Tried grocery store stone ground stuff but it just didn't compare.

I have to say this is absolutely the best corn meal I have ever used. I love the recipe on the back of the bag too.

Add texture to buttery biscuits with white cornmeal. Try our Cornmeal Biscuits with country ham: http://oldmillkitchen.old-mill.com/recipes/cornmeal-biscuits/
